Introduction
These Terms & Conditions govern the use of GotREFS.org by any organization, league, tournament, school, club, or individual utilizing the platform to locate, assign, and manage sports officials. By creating an account, posting assignments, or otherwise using GotREFS.org, the Organizer agrees to these Terms.
1. Role of GotREFS
GotREFS is an online marketplace that connects sports officials and event organizers. GotREFS does not employ, supervise, direct, train, or control officials or event organizers, and is not responsible for the conduct, statements, decisions, or actions of either party.
2. Organizer Responsibilities
Organizers agree that they are solely responsible for hiring decisions, supervision of events and officials on site, field and facility safety, spectator safety, payment to officials (unless payment is processed through GotREFS), insurance, and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Provide complete and accurate event information.
- Post assignments with correct dates, times, locations, age groups, sport, pay rates, and game formats.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and professional environment.
- Communicate schedule changes immediately.
- Designate an on-site contact.
- Comply with applicable laws.
3. Independent Contractor Relationship
Officials using GotREFS are independent contractors. Officials are not employees or agents of GotREFS. Nothing in these Terms creates an employer-employee, partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship between GotREFS and any official. Organizers acknowledge that officials are not employees or agents of GotREFS and remain responsible for selecting assignments, supervising events, paying officials unless payment is processed through GotREFS, and complying with tax and labor laws.
4. Truthfulness of Information
Users represent and warrant that all information submitted to GotREFS is true, complete, and accurate. All information submitted must be truthful and accurate. Users are solely responsible for the accuracy of all information they provide. GotREFS has no obligation to independently verify every representation made by a user.
Any false, misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent information—including regarding certifications, experience, insurance, availability, criminal history, identity, events, or payment—may result in immediate suspension or permanent removal from the platform. Users are solely responsible for any damages arising from false statements or misrepresentations. GotREFS does not independently verify every statement made by users and is not liable for reliance on inaccurate information provided by users.
5. Payments and Cancellations
Organizer agrees to pay all officials the compensation listed when accepting assignments and is responsible for applicable platform fees and service charges. Failure to pay may result in suspension, late charges, collection costs, or other remedies.
Organizers must notify officials immediately of cancellations. Unless otherwise agreed, games canceled within 72 hours may require payment up to 50% of the assigned fee, and games canceled within 24 hours may require payment of 100% if replacement work cannot reasonably be obtained. Weather cancellations are subject to posted Organizer policies.
6. Verification — No Guarantee of Character or Performance
GotREFS may display verification, certifications, experience, ratings, and sport-specific qualifications. The Organizer remains responsible for determining whether an official meets event requirements.
Verification only confirms that certain credentials or background information were reviewed as of a specific date. It is not a guarantee of honesty, professionalism, future conduct, or suitability. Even where an official is background checked or verified, GotREFS does not imply that the official is “safe” or “guaranteed.”
7. Conduct Disclaimer
GotREFS is not responsible for fraud, misrepresentation, assault, harassment, theft, negligence, rule disputes, officiating decisions, scheduling disputes, payment disputes between parties, defamation, false statements, or any illegal or inappropriate conduct by officials, organizers, or other users.
8. Professional Conduct
Organizers must provide an environment free from harassment, threats, discrimination, intimidation, physical abuse, and verbal abuse, and are responsible for the behavior of coaches, players, parents, spectators, volunteers, and staff.
9. User-Generated Content
Users are solely responsible for content they post, including reviews, ratings, messages, profiles, certifications, comments, and other user-generated content. Organizers may provide honest, factual reviews. Reviews containing false information, personal attacks, defamation, profanity, or discriminatory remarks may be removed.
10. No Circumvention
Organizers agree not to intentionally circumvent GotREFS by directly hiring or soliciting officials first introduced through the platform to avoid GotREFS fees for 24 months following first assignment through GotREFS.
11. Insurance
Organizers are encouraged to maintain general liability insurance, participant accident insurance, and event insurance as appropriate for their events. Organizers are responsible for maintaining all event insurance. GotREFS does not provide event insurance, general liability insurance, participant accident insurance, or any other insurance unless expressly stated in writing.
12. Limitation of Liability
GotREFS is a technology marketplace and does not supervise games or direct officials. To the fullest extent permitted by law, GotREFS shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, or special damages arising out of the use of the platform, including without limitation game outcomes, judgment calls, injuries, property damage, cancellations, scheduling conflicts, acts or omissions of users, lost profits, or consequential damages.
GotREFS’s maximum liability shall not exceed the fees paid to GotREFS during the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless GotREFS, its owners, employees, officers, affiliates, and partners from any claims, damages, liabilities, judgments, losses, costs, and attorneys’ fees arising from your conduct, representations, negligence, events, breach, injuries, or violation of these Terms or applicable law.
14. Right to Suspend or Remove Users
GotREFS may suspend or permanently remove any user at any time, with or without notice, for any reason it determines appropriate, including without limitation non-payment, fraud, chargebacks, misrepresentation, harassment, repeated cancellations, circumvention, or violations of these Terms or Community Standards.
15. Disputes Between Parties; Dispute Resolution with GotREFS
Any dispute between an official and an event organizer is solely between those parties. GotREFS may investigate complaints but is not obligated to resolve disputes or determine fault.
Disputes between you and GotREFS first proceed through good-faith negotiation, then confidential mediation, then binding arbitration in Orange County, California unless prohibited by law. California law governs these Terms.
16. No Warranty
The platform is provided AS IS and AS AVAILABLE. GotREFS makes no warranty regarding the honesty of users, availability of officials, qualifications, event quality, payments, outcomes, or officiating performance.
17. Reporting Misconduct
GotREFS may investigate reports of misconduct in its sole discretion and may suspend or remove accounts based on available information. GotREFS is not required to investigate every complaint and does not guarantee any particular resolution. Filing a report does not guarantee any particular outcome.
18. Privacy, Intellectual Property, and Changes
Organizer information is used under the GotREFS Privacy Policy. GotREFS intellectual property remains GotREFS property. GotREFS may modify these Terms, and continued use constitutes acceptance.
